Classmate Portrait

Originally from China, 23-year-old Shengze Zhu plans on moving to Hong Kong to pursue filmmaking after she finishes her two-year graduate school program at the Missouri School of Journalism.

Shengze Zhu has never taken off the two red bracelets her mother and grandmother gave her. They remind her of family as she studies journalism more than 7,800 miles from home.

Callie Lipkin does inspirational portraits. She manages to bring out personality and energy in her portrait photography. Her clients look comfortable and, most importantly, look like they are having a good time. There are no fake smiles here. Two of her strongest photographs — although all of them are really strong — were photographed on location and at the studio. Each photograph is both happy and playful. They're fun to look at and that helps make them great portraits.
